Fredonia will host its seventh annual Veterans Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 7 at 3:30 p.m. The ceremony, honoring and remembering veterans and active duty military members of the Armed Services, will be held in the Multipurpose Room of Fredonia’s Williams Center.
Students, staff and the local community are invited to proudly join President Barack Obama and Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki in commending the nation’s 23.4 million living veterans and the generations before them who fought to protect freedom and democracy.
The event will also honor five Fredonia student veterans by presenting them each with a scholarship during the ceremony. Among the students receiving a $500 scholarship are senior Social Studies Adolescence Education major Andrew Flagg of Jamestown, who will be recognized for serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; junior Social Work and Criminal Justice major Jayde Gemboys of Blasdell, for her father’s honorable service in the military; junior Criminal Justice major Patrick Seiberg Bemus Point, for his current position in the U.S. Air Force Reserves; and junior Psychology and Criminal Justice major Mikalena Wojcinski of Fredonia, for her service in the U.S. Navy. Junior Criminal Justice major Ryan Blendowski of Buffalo will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship for his current service in the National Guard.
