Caryn Freitag, a senior from Malta, N.Y., with a double major in flute performance and music business, has been selected as a finalist in the competition to form the first YouTube Symphony Orchestra. Her acceptance into the world's first collaborative orchestra will depend on the number of votes she receives for her performance video, posted on YouTube. Professionals and amateur musicians of all ages, locations and instruments auditioned for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra by submitting a video performance of a new piece written for the occasion by the renowned Chinese composer Tan Dun. Ms. Freitag was one of the finalists selected by a judging panel comprised of the worlds most renowned orchestras.
Winners, to be announced March 2, will be invited to participate in the YouTube Symphony Orchestra summit in New York City, and play at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas
To vote for Ms. Freitag, follow these steps:
- Sign into YouTube
- Go to the YouTube Symphony Orchestra website
- Click on "Vote"
- Search for her username: ceciliamus444. Her video will pop up. Listen to the video. Underneath is a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" button. Choose the "thumbs up!"

"I set up a Facebook group to let people know about it, but I want to do everything I can to get votes," Ms. Freitag said. "This is an international competition, and acceptance into the orchestra would be a huge honor."
