Giant board games, the first-ever “Go Blue Spirit Night” and screening of the blockbuster “Black Panther” under the stars will usher in the new academic year during Welcome Week at Fredonia. All events are free to Fredonia students and faculty.

The excitement begins early, on Saturday, Aug. 25, with outdoor fun at the Williams Center patio. Assorted yard games, giant board games and an ice cream social – while supplies last – will be held from 1 to 4 p.m.

Everyone is invited to wear their Fredonia gear and join “Go Blue Spirit Night” on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Steele Hall Fieldhouse. Members of Fredonia’s athletic teams will be introduced and students can register for intramurals. There will also be yard games and a nacho bar. Spectrum Entertainment will host a photo booth.

Dods Grove will host the outdoor showing of “Black Panther,” the super-hero movie based on the Marvel Comics character, on Monday, Aug. 27, at 9 p.m. Popcorn will be served. Attendees can also bring blankets.

Trivia and nachos will be center stage at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m.

New student “meet-ups,” sponsored by Residence Life, will be held at various campus locations on Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. and 9 to 10 p.m. Resident assistants have more information. Also, the skit “One Night,” performed by the professional actor troupe Equalogy, will be presented at 8 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. This educational and powerful performance, cosponsored by STEPS, brings awareness to acquaintance rape.

Bingo – with big prizes and lots of fun – will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.

Spectrum’s Block Party, featuring music by student a cappella groups and Sound Services, caricature artist drawings and airbrush tattoos, will be held on Friday, Aug. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Williams Center patio. Pizza and refreshments will be served.

Looking ahead to the following week, Activities Night – a great opportunity for students to join clubs and meet fellow students – will be held in Dods Grove on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 6:30 to 8 p.m. More than 180 clubs will be represented, so it’s a great opportunity for students to become involved in campus activities.
