The Western New York Chamber Orchestra continues its Mozart-themed season on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 4 p.m. in Rockefeller Arts Center’s King Concert Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus with a program entitled “Vestiges.” A pre-concert talk will be held at 3 p.m. in the art gallery at Rockefeller Arts Center.
Each work in this program has an unusual history, from Haydn’s lost concerto, to an early Mozart symphony thought to be composed by his father, but actually composed by him, to Beethoven’s “Grand Fugue,” which was reborn after his death.
Cellist Natasha Farny of the SUNY Fredonia School of Music is the featured soloist in the Haydn concerto.
Originally formed more than 25 years ago as the Fredonia Chamber Players under the artistic direction of Grant Cooper, the Western New York Chamber Orchestra was renamed during the tenure of Joel Revzen.
Currently led by Artistic Director and Conductor Glen Cortese, WNYCO is comprised of professional musicians from an area ranging from Buffalo to Erie, Pa.
The orchestra has hosted world-renowned artists including Peter Schickele, Sharon Robinson, Lauren Flanigan, and Sharon Isbin.
