All five Blue Devil starters scored in double figures, and sophomore Sabrina Macaulay (Newark) and senior Jaimie Warren (Lake View/Frontier) registered double-doubles, as the Fredonia State women's basketball team handily defeated New Paltz, 81-59. It was the team's fourth-straight win.
The victory also clinches a playoff berth for the team. Currently they stand in fourth place with four games left.
Macaulay had 10 points,15 rebounds and three blocks, while Warren had 11 points and 11 rebounds. It was the seventh double-double for Warren this season, and the fifth for Macaulay.
Senior Becky Hebert (Hilton) finished with a game-high 28 points. Freshman Alexis Cheatham (Lockport) had 15 points and seven assists. Sophomore Brittany LaForce finished with 12 points -- all coming from three-point range. She had a career-high 18 points the night before.
Freshman Kathryn Halloran (Angola/Immaculata Academy) added three steals, six rebounds and four points off the bench.
Courtney Irby had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the Hawks (3-12, 5-17 overall) in both categories.
The Devils dominated the boards, 51-28. They also doubled up New Paltz at the free-throw line, 22 for 27 (82 percent) compared to the Hawk's 11 of 18.
At 8-6 in the SUNYAC, the Devils are one game behind third-place Oneonta, who they defeated on Friday. The are one game ahead of Geneseo and Cortland. At this point, the Devils are the only SUNYAC team with a victory over first-place Buffalo State, which could factor in any potential tie-breaker situations.
The team stands at 13-7 overall.
The team has its final regular-season home games next weekend, when they play host to Geneseo on Friday and Brockport on Saturday. Senior Day recognition will also take place that weekend. The Devils then travel to Plattsburgh and Potsdam on the weekend of Feb. 21 -22 to complete the regular-season schedule.
