JEWEL Peer Advising
EOP’s JEWEL (July EOP Workshop for Expanded Learning) is the beginning of a learning experience for incoming EOP freshmen. Participation in JEWEL leads to a better understanding of what is necessary to be successful at Fredonia.
The JEWEL Peer Advising Program provides incoming freshmen who attend EOP's JEWEL summer orientation with an upper-class peer advisor. EOP JEWEL Peer Advisors (PA) are key staff members of the JEWEL program. The peer advisors work with the EOP staff and University personnel and are responsible for meeting the established goals of EOP JEWEL summer orientation workshop. PAs for JEWEL participate in the activities throughout the duration of the workshop serving as a role model/mentor to the students and assisting the EOP staff.
As successful students academically, peer advisors are knowledgeable about their majors and the campus, and can share their insights and experiences with the students. Selection of peer advisors is based on their leadership ability and commitment to helping others. Their job is to assist the freshmen by providing information, directions, and referrals to campus services; and listen to the students when they need to talk to a friendly person. Ongoing program events are also held to bring all EOP students together.
