The fall Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Series continues on Oct. 5 with a program on “America: ‘The Brand’ in a Post 9-11 World.” Bond Benton, Ph.D., will moderate the panel and speak on cultural and political capital. Other panelists include David Rankin, Ph.D., who will present on civility, service and engagement; and, Laura Johnson, Ph.D., who will speak on religion and American culture. It will take place at noon in the Horizon Room in the lower level of the Williams Center.
The Brown Bag Series offers monthly informal talks featuring new creative and scholarly work by SUNY Fredonia faculty members. Each 30-minute presentation is followed by a brief discussion and refreshments. The theme for this fall’s series is “America: 10 Years Later.” Future lectures include: “America: The Cost of Conflict,” which is part of SUNY Fredonia’s 2011-12 Convocation, on Nov. 2; and, “Are We There Yet: The Pursuit of Happiness and the American Dream,” co-sponsored by the Fredonia Philosophical Society, on Dec. 7.
All lectures take place between noon and 12:50 p.m. in the Horizon Room of the Williams Center. They are free and open to all campus and community members. Classes are welcome. This year’s series is directed by Teodora Cox, mathematical sciences; Jack Croxton, psychology; Laura Johnson, communication; and, Theodore Lee, biology.
