3+4 Affiliation Agreement between
Fredonia and
the New England College of Optometry
General Information and Requirements
The 3+4 Affiliation Agreement is a seven-year program developed between the State University of New York at Fredonia and the New England College of Optometry (NECO). Students can apply to the program as high school seniors or underclassmen at Fredonia. The first three years of the program are completed at Fredonia and the last four years are completed at NECO. Credits from the first year of medical school transfer back to Fredonia so the students earn the BS degree.
Eligibility
High School students who apply to the program should have:
- 90 grade point average with a strong science and math curriculum
- SAT of 1200 (Critical Reading and Math) or ACT of 26
Fredonia freshmen, sophomores and juniors may also apply to the program. Fredonia students should have:
- An overall gpa of 3.3
- A math and science gpa of 3.1
To continue in the program with admission to NECO students need:
- to complete their core major and general education requirements by the end of their junior year.
- an overall gpa of 3.3 and a math and science gpa of 3.1.
- to receive a 320 or above for the Academic Average on the Optometry Admission Test with no OAT sub-score below 290.
- demonstrate a commitment to the field of optometry
Fredonia Academic Requirements
Please note that these are the courses required by the New England College of Optometry. Students will need to complete additional courses for their degree requirements in their major and for the general education courses.
- BIOL 131, 132, 133, 134, 333, 338 (the introductory courses, biochemistry and microbiology)
- CHEM 115, 116, 125, 126, 215, 225 (general and organic chemistry)
- PHYS 121 & 123 or 230 & 232 (college or university physics)
- MATH 120 or 122 (calculus)
- STAT 250
- PSY 129
- ENGL 100 and a second English course
