Two faculty in Applied Professional Studies won an award at the inaugural Amazing Fantasy Fest for a song they co-wrote.

“If You Were in a Dream,” by Senior Lecturer Armand Petri and Adjunct Lecturer Edward Croft, won for Amazing Original Song. They wrote the music for the song for the action-comedy “Special Needs Revolt!” Lyrics were by Richard Fysh.

“Special Needs Revolt” takes place in a future dystopia, where a man with Downs syndrome  joins a rebellion against a cruel American dictator who has put all people with disabilities back into institutions.

Mr. Petri plans to teach the entire experience of working on the song in a new course, MUSB 350: Film Scoring for Laptop Computers, which encompasses the recording and writing of music, as well as contracts, the practical experience of negotiating and problems that can arise.

Amazing Fantasy Fest, which promoted itself as Buffalo’s festival of imaginative cinema offering “seven days of shock and awe,” was held at Dipson’s Amherst Theatre in Buffalo, NY. The awards presentation was Sept. 15.
